You can mimic this pattern in C:

#define ALLOC(T) \
  if (sizeof(T) <=3D 4) \
    return thread().fixed_alloc_4.alloc(); \
  if (sizeof(T) <=3D 8) \
    return thread().fixed_alloc_8.alloc(); \
  [...]
  else \
    return ::malloc(sizeof(T)) \
/**/

#define FREE(T, p) \
  if (sizeof(T) <=3D 4) \
    thread().fixed_alloc_4.free(p); \
  if (sizeof(T) <=3D 8) \
    thread().fixed_alloc_8.free(p); \
  [...]
  else \
    ::free(p) \
/**/

Usage:

struct my_obj_s
{
  int x, y;
};

typedef struct my_obj_s my_obj_t;

my_obj_t* x =3D ALLOC(my_obj_t);
....
FREE(my_obj_t, x);

It's still not global malloc/free, and user still have to supply exact
size of allocation to free(). But it's C.
