Unix vs Windows [was: The real Ruby vs. Python.]

I am a big proponent of being cross-platform *and* making things as easy
as
possible for end users to install and use. So, this is not intended to
start
any kind of competition or flame-war, mostly I'm just curious...

When I see the statement "most of us are unix users, there are some
windows
users" it makes me wonder whether or not this is really true. I'm involved
in two major cross-platform Ruby projects: FreeRIDE and wxRuby. In both
cases the windows downloads are higher than all the other platforms
combined.

It would be interesting if there was a more reliable way to gauge Ruby's
use
on various platforms, but I don't know how that could be done.
