I played with it a little bit.  It has some of the strengths
of Delphi, and overcomes a couple of weaknesses.  It does have
a few new weaknesses, though.

It's very im****tant to me that the debugger is well integrated.
If the program crashes (or it detects an overflow or range
error), I expect the editor to display the line which generated
the error.  Also, I expect the current line in the editor to
reflect the current line while single-stepping.  It appears
that Lazarus fails on both counts.  I suspect some of the
limitations come from relying on gdb for debugging.  

I have SlickEdit to do clever editing tricks, and I'm good
with make files.  I can handle all the build-related tasks
that IDEs try to make easy (mostly).  Integrating debugging
with the editor is more challenging, and most IDEs fall
short of my expectations in this area.
