I recently started again to do some programming with freepascal. I did
some programming with TurboPascal, but this was some fifteen years
ago, quite a long time in the it world.
Since I do no longer have a dos run pc I was very happy to find out
that there exists freepascal for Linux. And furthermore there are some
tools for such a beginner as me.
The actual impetus to start again with Pascal came because my elder so
(David, 16) will start with informatics in school. And the teacher
announced that they would do some programming with Pascal, because
this is a language very good for teaching.

Well, we do live in Arft which is in western Germany, some thirty
miles north-west of Koblenz - near the Nuerburgring racing court. Arft
has about 200 inhabitants and is situated in the scenic surroundings
of the Eifel mountains (500 meters above sea level). Nearly no winter
this year, until now only some three days with snow, no sledg driving,
no skiing possible.
I am 53 and used to be an industrial clerk, but I was laid off three
years ago, which causes many problems for me and my family.

ACK. My pc is a PII/266 with 288 mbyte ram. That is the oldest pc in
our family. David's pc is a AMD 2400/64 with some kind of an
incredible speed of working - but still I can contact the whole world
with my old fa****oned machine ;-)
In my opinion I do not need a faster pc, for my office programs it is
fast enough. And as it seems for programming too.
I found geany a nice ide tool (http://geany.uvena.de).

ACK. Where have times gone by. In earlier times we used to do some
repairs of our car by our own. I remember lying under our Lada on some
french camping site in order to exchange the generator. Bl** piece of
work, but possible even for a non mechanic such as me.
Greetings from Arft,
