Lets see. In the early 1960's, Wirth goes to work on the Algol successor
standard. After arguing in comittee for great lengths of time (years ?)
Wirth and friends go off and draw up a proposal for Algol-W, while another
group draws up a proposal for what becomes Algol 68. Wirths proposal
loses, the considerably more complex Algol 68 is ratified as the
standard by the comittee, then virtually nobody implements Algol 68,
and the language is effectively dead.

Humm.... I guess you could say that Wirth had had it with standards
comittees, yes.
