Noob needs help getting started

by Duke Normandin <dukeofperl@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 16, 2008 at 02:49 PM

Hello ....

I have Ray Newman's Mumps 1.47 working on my IMAC. I also DLed Dr.
O'Kane's compiler (I guess that's what it is) but it's not installed
yet.

Up til a couple of days ago, I had never seen Mumps code let alone
fiddled with a Mumps compiler/interpreter. I am familiar with Perl, PHP,
TCL/Tk, Forth, Euphoria and a few others.

I'm not clear as to whether Mumps is an interpreted or compiled language
(or maybe both depending on the implementation). Could somebody set me
straight on that. Which Mumps implementation would be more suitable for
a total noob? Would the FIS-GT.M software be something I could learn on?

As well, I need a step-by-step noob tutorial -- does one exist for
Mumps? I'm a bit frustrated at the moment, as I'm having to learn an
unfamiliar Mumps environment as well as an unfamiliar (Mumps) language.
However, something tells me that I will be liking Mumps. TIA....
