I considered word-problems boring but easy IIRC.

This is somewhat recognizable. I never studied for any beta subject until
way into my bachelor studies (and I did a beta subject). But the lack of
practice got me into trouble later, when solving wasn't a straightforward
process anymore (and you e.g. had to recognize substitutions to solve a
partial differential equation analytically).

Strangely enough it didn't turn up that hard during math cl***** that was
the problem, but the other courses (thermodynamics and process
engineering,
I was studying chemical engineering). This because in these, more applied,
cl***** it wasn't only the knowledge of the previous semester that was
tested, and it was less predictable what part of math knowledge was going
to
be tested.
