I don't know if any JNI code is involved.

I changed the JRE to 1.5.0_03 and it didn't crash.

I also tried JRE 1.5.0_07, and it didn't crash. (Am in the preliminary 
stages of testing with this JRE).

Seems like a bug with 1.5.0_06.
