Oprah had a guy on to explain email, mailservers, the Internet and
routers to her.
It was funny listening to her questions. You just sort of assume
everyone must already know this stuff.
She was surprised to learn the Internet was a physical thing. She
thought it was a wireless point to point system. She was surprised to
learn email servers are connected by physical wires and fibre optic
cables.
She was surprised to learn that cor****ations own and maintain the
routers and servers.
She was surprised to learn there are routers and servers all over the
world. I think she might have imagined it would be a giant
supercomputer hidden in the Pentagon.
She was surprised to learn that servers and routers were physical
objects and that they about the size of a breadbox.
I am glad she did this. Today marks a great leap forward in basic
Internet understanding.
