dude, if you actually think apple will try to force the consumers to
buy a data plan (ADDITIONAL $39/month) with the iphone, then you are
just as loony as "none".

Blackberry users HAVE TO buy the additional data plan because the
whole point of the blackberry if email integration with company
servers.

what's going to happen to iphone is people will buy it for the cool
phone factor, but the majority won't even have a data plan, which
means the actual numbers of safari users on iphone will be only a
fraction of the total phone sales.

say it sells 1 million this year, then only a fraction of that will
actually be surfing the web.

dude, perhaps you live in some utopia where wi-fi is everywhere
(although so far you have provided ZERO data that wi-fi is even common
in NYC), but most people i know don't have wi-fi AND those that have
usually have them at home, where it makes no sense to use their
cellphone to go on the web when their PCs are staring them right in
the face.

See, that's your problem...each piece of technology has their
use...mobile are great when you are outside and moving around a lot,
but their small size make them less easy to use for extended periods
than larger PCs, which is why you arguing that people will be using
their iphone ro surf the web AT HOME (when they have PCs weith 17 inch
monitors) is fallacious at best.

however, with 5.2 billion web view, 15 million downloads (probably the
largest numbers of downloads for any mobile app) and a 13% month on
month growth rate, plus the fact a MOBILE browser has actually beaten
desktop browsers (inc desktop safari in some places) in market share,
opera mini is a resounding success any way you look at it.

hey let me repeat that again...can you give penetration rates for
publicly accessible open wi-fi access points for the whole of
manhattan? Cause that 60% figure you gave is completely bogus.

Uh, yeah sure....you keep on thinking that while throttling their
bandwidth. people are stupid and have no idea how to protect their wi-
fi is what's happening, the vast majority of people (inc me, btw)
would rather not have neighbors stealing bandwidth that i'm paying
for....this is not aresoucr ethat's infinite, and the more people tap
on it, the slower my own usage.
