No, you need a lesson in how OSX is constructed. Only the upper GUI 
layers are proprietary, the underpinnings, the entire "os", is open.

It's built on FreeBSD for christ's sake.

Safari is free, data on a 802.11 network is free, where is this "data 
plan" you talk about. Safari doesn't need to use it for anything.

Safari is also a cell phone browser, please tell me you still haven't 
seen the 2007 WWDC keynote.

Yes, and I agree, current usage of Opera mini is pegged at .16% so it's 
"tiny" compared to Safari.

all will have data plans and all will surf since that's one of the 
PRIMARY features of the phone, so the only question is how many will 
apple be able to produce in the first few months. if that number is 
higher than 3 million, then Opera Mini becomes the number 2 phone 
browser. JUST LIKE I'VE been saying all along.

Apple brought out the world standard 802.11 Wi-Fi in New York in what, 
Summer of 2001? Yep, so now it's pretty much everywhere you go. Sure 
remote places out in Nebraska won't have it for a few more years, but 
90% of the population is now ready to move over to IP for phone calls, 
not some ancient CELL network. I'm just head of you on this, that's all.

download coconut-wifi, i current see 14 802.11 networks, 4 of them are 
fully open. And it's only been 6 years since Apple brought the world 
Wi-Fi.

but for most, if you are out of range, you WANT to be out of range.

That's what the required ATT data plan is for, nothing more.
