the way I cracked it was to move the following chunk:

     ; Position the window on screen
    WIDGET_CONTROL, Event.Top, TLB_GET_SIZE = $
      ImageWidgetSize
    WIDGET_CONTROL, GraphBase, TLB_SET_XOFFSET = $
      ImageWidgetSize[0] + 8

to AFTER the /REALIZE call to WIDGET_CONTROL.

Boy do you need to read that do***entation carefully :-)
