Computer Has Sense of Humor

by David Fanning <news@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Mar 11, 2008 at 03:36 PM

Folks,

My computer is either playing a cruel joke on me, or it
has an incredible sense of humor. Here is the situation.

Normally, when I click on a file ending in a .pro extension,
my Windows machine knows that I want to run an IDL program
and fires up the latest version of IDL. Perfect!

But, today, it suddenly stopped doing that. Today, when I
click on a *.pro file, it wants to put the IDL 6.0 installation
CD into the drive because it "needs something" that can only
be found there, I guess.

I've done the usual things. I've made sure the file association
is associated with the IDL 7.0 idlde with the File Manager,
I've run Registry Mechanic to fix any registry problems, I've
put my IDL 7.0 CD in and "repaired" my IDL installation. I've
even restarted my computer. Now, all *.pro files use the IDL 7.0
icon (that is, they *look* like IDL 7 files), but when I click
on them they *still* want me to install IDL 6.0.

I haven't had IDL 6.0 on my machine for 4-5 years, at least.
(I know this, because I've been complaining about IDL 7 for
at least that long. Anyway, it seems like I have.)

Any ideas? I did install an evaluation copy of ENVI, along with
IDL 6.4, but I removed that in the Microsoft approved way before
I started all the other rigamarole.

I *could* get the ol' IDL 6.0 CD out of the closest, or wherever
the hell it is, I suppose. But I hate to give in to machinery.
It would be nice to know why it is picking on me.

Cheers,

David
