It is better for programs to allow many versions of the same software
to be installed at the same time. Too many act against this.

To compound these problems, many GUI installation wizards do not make
it easy to log what the system state had been before attempted
installation;
what (detailed) steps installation enatails; and what the system state
has been after failed installation. There is no reason why this should
be harder with a GUI, but even the GUI error message dialogs tend to not
allow copying and pasting of the text. This is ludicrous.
