There are several ways to interface with terminals, which aren't really
portable outside the Unix world, and some are marked obsolete. vt100 is
more common than termcap/terminfo. And vt100 is an ANSI standard.

Anyway, Linux' manpage says on termcap: "The termcap database is an
obsolete
facility for describing the capabilities of character-cell terminals and
printers." The current way to do it is terminfo. There is no easy,
lightweight library to use it; curses/ncurses is way too complex (and once
I start using ncurses, you'll for sure complain that I should stick to the
functionality of BSD-curses ;-).

Certainly, this is a typical Forth-way to do things. Ignore the
pathological
cases, and problems become much easier to solve.

What I can do is for the trivial case of backspacing, let at-deltaxy use
BACKSPACES. This allows you to use whatever terminal you like unless you
want multi-line editing.
