Have you looked at `man 2 execve' on your OS X box? Compare _it_ to its 
counterpart on your Linux system. Who knows, `man' is often your friend.

As well, it may be worth your while to join the freebsd-developers 
mailing list. After all, those boys are responsible for lineage that 
Darwin OS X originates from. HTH....
