Well, the thing about PCs is that they're doing a bunch of things 
concurrently, while managing a very pretty and easy-to-use (though quite 
resource-intensive) user interface.  That's an awesomely different 
challenge from any dedicated system, though they often have their own 
challenges (such as high data rates and extreme reliability requirements).

The first half of my computing career was spent in database-intensive 
IT-type applications, and the second half in embedded systems.  In both 
cases, my colleagues thought their challenges were significant, and the 
"other" kind of computing trivial.  They're both wrong (and both right). 
  The challenges are all significant, but quite different.
