You're wrong, I'm afraid.

I can site chapter and verse here:
Intel SX386 programmers manual 1991
table 5-1
Application segments type:
8 types of read-only and read-write segments
8 types of execute only and execute/read segments

Writing into an executable segments is accomplished
by having the Data Segment register and the Code Segment
register point to the same memory through different
segment descriptors.
With 32 and certainly 64 bits it becomes a habit to have all
Segment Registers pointing to the same memory (flat model).

It is horrendously complicated so you're excused ;-)
