I quite like the ideas in StrongForth.  I've toyed around with the idea
of implementing a 32-bit StrongForth in ANS Forth, using Forth as the
CPU/VM.  I think I understand the details well enough to do it but I
just haven't made the time.  Doing it this way would make it available
in a large number of environments relatively quickly, at the expense of
performance (though hardly a concern with today's desktop CPUs).
