You could write a class inheriting from THREAD_CONTROL, and use its
sleep(nanoseconds: INTEGER_64) feature in an infinite loop; then it's
up to you how to integrate this mechanism in the control flow of your
application.

Otherwise, you could try to wrap alarm() and signal related system
calls (indeed, I don't like working with signals very much).
