Assistant (PhD/postdoc) positions at ETH Zurich, Meyer team

by Manuel Oriol <moriol@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Nov 10, 2006 at 05:33 PM

The chair of software engineering (Prof. Bertrand Meyer) is recruiting
assistants for several ongoing and new projects in
	- Class proofs
	- Automatic testing
	- Concurrency/distribution/transactions
	- Dynamic software evolution
Assistants at ETH pursue a PhD and participate in teaching and other
activities of the chair. We offer an excellent environment, outstanding
resources and competitive salaries (currently about 60,000 CHF/year for
PhD students). All recent university rankings place ETH in the top tier
of world research universities and at the very top in continental
Europe. The Chair of Software Engineering currently includes two
professors and a highly diverse team of about 20 PhD students and
postdocs covering several areas of software engineering research.

We are looking for highly qualified candidates; please do not answer
unless you feel you have the appropriate profile. In particular:
	- You must have a strong software engineering background,
both the theoretical basis and software development
	  experience.
	- You must know object technology thoroughly and either
have good practice of Eiffel (the language and method
that we use for most of our work) or be prepared to
acquire it rapidly, building from other experience.
	- You must have some background in one or more of the
	  areas cited above.
	- Even if you are not applying for the "class proofs"
position you must have basic experience in formal
	  methods and proofs.
	- You must be familiar with the basics of our work,
about which you can find details at
	  http://se.ethz.ch
(see in particular the Research
	  links).
	- You must include a short (1/2 page to two pages)
general description of what kinds of project
you would like to tackle (taking into account
our research goals as described on the cited
	  Web site).

To be accepted by the ETH administration, PhD students must have a
master's degree or equivalent from a reputed institution. Please note
that there is very little flexibility regarding this requirement;
candidates with a bachelor's degree are encouraged to look into our
department's pre-doctoral program, which provides the opportunity of a
fast-track research master's as a preparation for the doctoral program
(see http://www.inf.ethz.ch/education/predoc/index).

Qualified candidates should send to mailto:open-positions@[EMAIL PROTECTED]
 an
application with the following two attachments (as attachements, not
zipped, PDF or text preferred but Word acceptable):

	- CV, including detailed educational and work experience,
grades, names of references, and any information relevant
	  to the position.

	- Short "mission statement" as described above.

Any other information should be in the body of the email.

Applications should be sent as early as possible and before December 7,
2006 for a first selection. The positions will remain open until filled.

We also expect one or two openings for postdocs or senior researchers in
the areas listed above. Interested candidates with a strong research
record and organizational abilities are welcome to apply using the same
procedure as described above.
