I'm not quite sure what "batch processing" is.    What's the
difference between an operator submitting a job (and sometimes
entering parms interactively), CA-7 submitting a job, Time Machine
taking its hourly backup, Windows starting its boot-up tasks, Me
selecting a do***ent and clicking on "print" (instead of opening it to
edit it), clicking on a .bat file that synchronizes my data to my
****table or network drive (to access from home), or my telling iTunes
to synchronize with my computer?

Lots of the arguments about how the old way of doing things will die
aren't about absolutes.
