I had a conversation with a well-traveled colleague, originally from
Russia, about why
people in third world countries waste money on Coca-Cola. I said they had
less expensive
sources of hydration and sugar. He said, "You Americans can't understand
how they think.
Holding a Coke makes them feel properous for a short time, like they're on
par with
Americans." I responded, "Like wearing Levi jeans." He siad, "Exactly."
