Hi Hfufna,
Nice to hear from you again.... Alaska started out well but they could
never keep up with their promises and time schedules.... I started
pointing
that out and they didn't like that too much. <g>
dBASE at that time was well ahead of Alaska esp in the area of an IDE /
form
designer etc etc since they used the Borland IDE. I used dBASE for
awhile
but could see after awhile, they were pretty much dead ( development wise
)
and then out of frustration, I moved to C++. C++ was great, did
everything
I needed to do and was super quick. Until recently when I found out
about
Vulcan, I'd been doing C++ work just about exclusively. But I missed
coding
in an xbase language.
I happened to catch the press release about Vulcan and noticed they had a
free trial ( http://goVulcan.net
) and played with it some... I actually
managed to get a small app together without reading the getting started
guide <g>. But then after reading the getting started guide I was hooked.
They have just about the best getting started guide I've ever seen....
It's
a must read for anyone wanting to get into NET ( no matter what language
you
use ).
The Vulcan language is kind of part C# and part xbase... it's amassing how
well plain Jane xbase code runs with it. And since it's 100 percent NET
CLR, it produces the exact same NET exe my C++ code would produce. The
EXEs are nice and small ( you can email them <g> ), since it uses the NET
Framework which is already on most people's computers.
So so far so good, I found another product I like, it works, and it's 100
percent Microsoft compatible and I can use the Visual Studio IDE. I
haven't personally seen it but I hear the Vulcan exes also run on Linux
and
Mac ( with the right emulation software I guess ).
Stay in touch, ( live long and prosper <g> )
Al
