Couldn't the server Admin set up the Remote logins to point to an
individual 
directory (temp or otherwise) on login for each user.
If the user directory can be assigned after app. login why not when they 
login to the server, if they don't run your app then nothing is lost but
if 
they do then your app need do nothing but verify the 'user' details.

Why not fix the shortcut to run a batch file which fixes the variables 
BEFORE you run the app.

Another alternative is to use Virtual Machines/Servers
    - ie user logins into a VM which allows each user to have their own 
environment and goes away when they logout.
