I removed the shell line and put the PATH statement and the SETs in the
there too. I removed the batch file.

When I executed a DOS box, it again showed 'Out of environment space' but
I
was able to run SET to see what the environment space now held:

COMSPEC=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\COMMAND.COM
ALLUSERSPROFILE=C:\DO***E~1\ALLUSE~1
APPDATA=C:\DO***E~1\Alan\APPLIC~1

OBJ=G:\PRG\CLIPPER\OBJ;G:\PRG\CLIPPER\CATOOLS\OBJ;G:\PRG\BLINKER\OBJ

It obviously ran out of steam on the last assignment. I still cannot see
why
it runs out of space. I there no way of increasing it? Can the /E switch
still be employed? If so how?
