It is huge. Still is these days, and will be so for the next decade.
I have got plenty of friends that live at places all overall Europe
where there is no broadband access (not even mobile phones!). Countries
like France, Germany, Belgium. Last year I stayed with a friend in the
French Pyrenees and there I have again known the (almost forgotten)
pleasure to surf the net with a 56 K modem. An awful experience but
those people have got to do it like that every day. In fact, even simple
webpages like google mail take 3 minutes to load.

Yesterday I was in an office of ours in the UK. Only 10 miles from
London (Purfleet). The BT broadband access we've got there has the
dazzling speeds of ... 512 K. Faster is not possible, because "just a
little bit too far away in the Docks". I had to do a 50 MB download from
McAfee. Took me 25 minutes!

Here, at the office in Antwerp, we have had broadband access for years
but limited to 1.8 megabit. Only since a few months, we are at 4
megabit.

etcetera etcetera.

So I entirely agree with Dick that it is insane to offer 5 GB downloads.
Even 300 MB downloads is madness (imagine being on a 56 K analogue
internet access and Windows update starts doing one of its famous +200
MB downloads behind your back?).
