The result of the comparison is 0 (false, not equal) or 1 (true, equal),
and the assignment-operator = assigns 0 (because the value of j is not
1) to i.

= is the assignment-operator, and i = j = 1 is processed from right to
left, so first the value of j is set to 1 and then the value of i is set
to the value of j.
