Odd indeed, but I've heard of one compiler vendor being asked by a
client to create exactly that.  The client had so much code that was
endian-dependent that it was easier/cheaper/quicker/more-reliable to
change the compiler than the applications/libraries... execution speed
evidently wasn't the dominant concern.
