Can anybody tell me what's up with this newsgroup? I can't see any
(recent) postings there, Google Groups has a spam posting from some
months ago ...
Is this newsgroup dead? Has it been deleted? My (university) news server
has it, anyway ...

existence, IMO.
But it says:

When I need variables of type list_item, should I declare them by using
list_item or list<E>::item?
