I've found out something exciting, and I've been just dying to tell
somebody... but I have to do it anonymously or I'd be in big troubel.
I just found this Google group, I hope it's the right place for this
sort of thing. If somebody has a better idea where I should spill
this, please say so!
Anyway, as you probably know, we've all been waiting for a tool that
will allow us (RB developers) to create web applications in RB ever
since RS announced their "Swordfish" project a couple years ago. But
at this year's RealWorld, REAL announced that they've scrapped plans
for Swordfish.
I have found out that a third-party company (i.e. not REAL Software)
is working on some technology that will serve this purpose. I'll
continue to dig for more details, but at this point it appears to be a
PHP-like server side scripting implementation.
I think RealBasic developers are really going to be excited about
this. RB makes desktop apps really well, but has always been useless
when it comes to web apps. From what I've heard, this new tool should
be a pretty neat solution.
