Thanks again Joe...sounds like I'm about to commit a sin! LOL
I would not like to upset any Mac users my messing with their main
menu bar, if it's not the done thing.
My application must load automatically at system startup, and have
some icon which shows changing status graphically, and also lets the
user click on this icon to control the application with a popup menu.
So, is the accepted method to use the dock as you described initially?
