I prefer PowerBasic myself. The Windows versions default to signed 
LONG (DOS version defaults to INTEGER, 16 bits) and include both 
signed and unsigned integers. (PowerBasic's WORD is unsigned; 16-bit 
signed int is INTEGER.)
