I actually think awk-ish style is the main reason, but apart from that
there's
conciseness. Just like diamonds have 4 Cs to consider (Cut, Colour,
Carrat, and
Clarity), so software has it's own 4 Cs (Cohesion, Coupling, Conciseness,
and
Consistency). When you're buying the diamond/software you of course need
to add
a 5th C, Cost, to both of them!
