Not exactly. You should've said something like "OT: if you're on a UNIX
system,
the dos2unix command might do what you want - if you're interested in
learning
about that or other UNIX solutions, post your question to comp.unix.shell
or
other UNIX NG".

I don't think you wasted his time, but you suggested a solution which may
or may
not work as you think and there may or may not be a better UNIX
alternative so
you've thrown the OP into a space where they think they've been given a
good
solution, but maybe it isn't and no-one here (except Kenny!) is going to
argue
because it's OT for this group. I just finished what you started by
pointing you
and the OP to where to get some informed discussion on the topic if
interested.
