I seem to remember - but I could be wrong - that I worked on an 
implementation of PL/I in the early 1980's that did differentiate as well.

It was either the Honeywell Series 6000 Level 66 running GCOS 7(?) or the 
Pr1me 50 Series.

But we're talking a long time ago and it was college.
