FYI, if you get the nntp message-id, you can feed it back into Google
Groups
advanced search "Message ID" lookup to generate a shorter link to the
specific message:
http://groups.google.com/group/comp.realtime/msg/a8e202accfeca4f6

When using Google Groups to view a post, select "more-options" followed by
"show-original" and there'll be a "Message-ID" line in the original post.
E.g., 8271cs$gt3$1@[EMAIL PROTECTED]
 in this case.  Or, if bold, roll your
own
html link directly from the numbers...
