I remember trying to write a REXX routine which called XEDIT under CMS 
to provide data editing facilities to an APL*Plus program interfaced to 
Oracle

I had a semi-circle of manuals laid out on the floor around the desk

but a day or two's hard work had it sorted (I could manage a day or 
two's hard work in those days -- I needed the money)

like most database projects, it wasn't the technical aspects that gave 
the most problems  --  it was other people
