Re: typing.  There's a lot of confusion about this.  People often talk
about strong versus weak typing when what they really mean is staticly
declared versus implicit typing.  Static typing is often advocated for
improving code quality, but type errors are rarely a significant
problem.  Static type declarations are more useful as hint to the
compiler about possible optimizations.  For the exploratory programing
at which APL excels, they're more trouble than they're worth.
Optional type declarations could be useful for interpreters or
compilers that could take advantage of them.
