This was absolutely correct, in my case, when much younger, I would
work very strange hours, evenings and nights, and get a lot done. I
could even juggle two or more smaller problems in my head. Today, I
try to do whatever development work possible outside the office, and
do the integration on site.
Today, it's the interruptions. I normally schedule whatever meetings
very early or late into the workday, to avoid repeatedly warming up.
I also find that warmup time for APL for me is far less than for say
C#, but I suppose that the real reason for this is that I don't enjoy
doing the .Net work.
For me, the probability of being interrupted is proportional to the
length of time I've been at an organisation. When I'm starting out in
a new place, no one knows me, no one talks to me, and I get to work
without too much interruption. Later, you get questions about just
about everything.
