C was popular because it was around at the right place and the right
time. (around 1980) It was easy to port, small, was ported
everywhere, and was the only thing until something "better" came
along. That better thing was Java. I haven't heard of anyone doing
any serious application programming in C for at least 15 years. One
person once described working in C as "like working with something
highly radioactive".
