what's "typing"? - (from the context I could figure it's declare
datatypes)
if & then: am I dreaming and walking backwards?

I thought datatypes where implicit in APL.
In DEC10,20 & VAX 11 APL (here mentioned lately a few times) you could
change the datatype "on the fly" by, if I remeber correctly, {quad}QIC.
E.g. a character string was split in groups of 4 and "changed" in n
integers, floats - 16, 32 or 64 bit whatever was appropriate in the app.
and the other way around.
