Python is 'good enough' for most things.  I suggested it when we were
looking for a common test scripting language for our engineers to
use.  Other candidates included TCL, Perl, and a couple of internally
developed languages.  We've ended up using it for much more we than
originally intended, systems programming, web development, general
prototyping, ...  NumPy is a good array programming extension though I
still prefer J or A+ for quick calculations because they take less
typing.
