A P L (as I was pointing to) means American Pacific Lines. There's also
an American Psychological Laboratory, and probably more.
Gosi's contribution could well have been just an allusion to the "BAA"
flight company (or the other way around, for that matter), that was my
"modest" brainwave.
But I wasn't disturbed by it, I couldn't care less, while in my view
financial
quarrels between members, either societies or individuals, do not belong
in c.l.a in the first place.

ps. vaguely I remember an involvement of APL in BA-systems
