Marv, I don't think you are missing anything. You do not have this
requirement, don't worry about it - I don't think there is anything
wrong with you :-). APL systems will hopefully continue to support
your way of working for ever (certainly, this is a goal that we
constantly remind ourselves of at Dyalog).

But some people want to use APL to deliver solutions to people who do
need an interface to help them enter arguments to the APL functions,
and these people have developed expectations about what these
interfaces should look like. If you want to "compete" in a commercial
marketplace, you sometimes need to pander to these expectations.
