Having an unmoderated counterpart would not change that. It provides an
additional forum for discussions free from moderation. Yes, spammers would
probably post to it and would all sorts of other detractors but,
unmoderated
discussions would still occur.

You haven't presented any sound arguments for dismissing the proposed RFD
yet.

Here is one (at least in the short term) - the new unmoderated group
should
be called comp.compiler in keeping with established protocol/practice.
This
would have an impact on the present moderated group because it's name will
have to change.

I'm in favour of having both.
