Hi.
I'm a fairly experience developer and would like to write a small app to
run
on PalmOS. Nothing fancy, just want something that crunches some
user-entered numbers and displays results. Before I tackle that, I'm
trying
to create a 'hello world' prog just to get things started. However, I
don't
seem to be getting very far...
I downloaded the Palm OS Developer Suite from Palmsource and installed it
on
my Win2K machine. I didn't notice any problems with the install.
I followed the tutorial to make a hello world app, and got something built
for a Windows console target. Why did it target for Windows when it's a
PalmOS development tool?
I decided to to try opening a sample project, get the build working and
then
fiddle with the code, so I copied the BasicApp project folder from samples
into my working folder so that I could play wth it. However, I can't find
a
way to open the project file - seems I have to im****t it into another
project. Why can't I just do what can be done with every other compiler
I've
used and copy the sample project folder to my workspace, open the project
and play with it?
When I look in the copied BasicApp folder, none of the files has an
association under Windows - there's no "PODS Project File" or somesuch;
and,
if I right click and try Open With, the PODS tool doesn't appear in the
list - I can't use the Windows OS to force PODS to open an existing
project
file. Is this correct, or did something go wrong in the install after all?
I did eventually manage to get the sample im****ted and it looked like it
built okay as well. However, when I try to run it, it wants to run the
Windows app I built from the tutorial (HelloWorld2, as it happens) - but I
had already deleted that app from the environment.
I'd really like to get this going, but I'm hitting an impasse, in that it
doesn't seem to behave like other IDEs I've used over the years. I'd
appreciate some advice on how to create a small Palm app that does
something
like pop up a 'hello world' dialog with an OK button. It seems such a
simple
thing to ask for, but I feel like I'm fighting with an IDE that has an
over-complicated project handling paradigm.
Thanks in advance!
