Thanx for the input guys. I'll keep trying to get warp 4 with mozilla
running, and watch for the flash players. I'm not real up on all the
nomenclature, being more interested in reading text like this which
has so much more content. I'll prolly order a new cheap socket 370
mthbd next week to run os/2 on. The only thing I have now is a mini-
itx, and it is quirky.
I expect delivery of a new POST card later this week to test mthbds I
already have. The stats are neat. Its got one side of the square card
with the PCI tabs, and another for the old 8bit ISA. Says it'll test a
mthbd *without* a cpu, so I can make sure it wont fry a chip if I put
a new one in. its from http://www.shentech.com
and only cost 6.88$
(s&h is 10$)
I tried the new drd 7.03.08, on a boot floppy, but cant get it
installed on a fat 32. mite try a fat 16. But the DRSYS.com told me it
couldnt find "ibmbios", so I hadda rename drdbios & drddos to get it
to run, but even then, didnt work on the fat 32. I dunno. the bug list
is so extensive with warnings about problems with 16 bit software on a
32 bit partition that it mite not be worth the trouble.
is there a significan number of dos apps that benefit from fat 32?
And even if I get warp 4 running, it mite not logon to my server,
hughes.net. Living on a remote Ozark ridge, satellite uplink is my
only high speed option. And when I had trouble during the install,
sup****t told me they *only* sup****t windoze. Not linux. Dude didnt
even know what Mozilla was.
Hughes is just way behind the curve on this. My pc dont logon to
Hughes. *their* transponder does. As far as my desktop is concerned,
I'm just logging on to a local network router. Like there's someone
else in the house who'd hack my interface.
Anyone tried arachne 190 online? I never found it adequate, and when I
first switched from the BBS nets to the Internet, used Redhat 5 with
Netscape. Boy was that a dog on a 486, but it would work. The manual
sucked as well. Corel is the only Linux manual that approached the
ease of use I found with the DRDOS 6 manual.
Part of the problem is that the programmers all work in networked
environments, and think everybody needs to learn how to run a server.
Dos Batch is, as I guess Terrance knows, gonzo easier to deal with
than curses. And when I'm running warp 4, I keep opening a dos window
to run a dos file manager. dragging a mouse around is too clumsy.
