Capitalism. If somebody has a better idea, they patent it. Which
creates a new device that needs a new driver that they get to *sell*.
I guess the term "better" could be clarified. I get links all the time
that want different video or text drivers. Yet most of my time at the
pc is like right now, when I am reading or writing plain old ASCII
like I've been doing since 1982.
