Well, C has a well known snide remark: "a language that combines all the
elegance and power of assembly language with all the readability and
maintainability of assembly language".  It's also been called "PDP-8
assembly language".  It has not, however, been blamed for ruining
potential wizards, but has been credited with facilitating their growth
and development.
